Beat the %$#@ out of a punching bag

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I attended a 3 day workshop on personal development over the weekend. It was called the “Mental Toolbox” run by Paul Blackburn. We did several guided meditations (and just exactly where do guided meditations and hypnosis differ?) Very powerful stuff IMHO. There was a fascinating aside during the course about dealing with stress. Paul said that in terms of stress coping mechanisms, people tend to self-select different substances :- smoking goes with anger, cannabis goes with sadness (depression) and alcohol goes with fear. To break free from these types of stress reactions and coping mechanisms, he recommended getting a punching bag, laying it on the ground and hitting it with the outsides of your hands whilst yelling at it. It so reminded me of doing shuto - knife-hand strikes in karate. Do this for 20 minutes 3 times a week for a month, combined with meditation or hypnosis and he suggested we should notice a big change in our lives.

So - there is another useful addition to the stress management checklist. Oh, and while you’re at it, get some hypnotherapy to help handle, reframe and de-fuse stress here: Hypnotherapy for stress Management

The Human Mind and How to Make the Most of It

Friday, August 31st, 2007

I watched the BBC show about the latest developments on brain and mind-body research last night and it was fascinating, also validating the kinds of benefits we have been claiming on this website.

a) Fish oil makes you smarter.

b) Visualization actually develops motor skills in areas as diverse as olympic-class gymnastics (see http://www.gymnastics-hypnosis.com) and dancing (see http://www.ballroomdancinghypnosis.com) .

c) Visualization can actually build muscle bulk (see http://www.bodywyld.com)
They didn’t have access to the 2006 research that found that these skills develop even better when you visualize in the Alpha brainwave state - under trance -using hypnosis.   So that’s an extra benefit of what we are offering.

It is clear that anyone who has even an ounce of interest in developing better mental or physical  abilities owes it to themselves to try this revolutionary science and start gaining benefits.  I predict that this will become a mainstream education process within a few years.  And you can ride the wave early.  Lucky you!

Stress Management

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

We launched a new promotion to address the huge market for stress relief and stress management yesterday. You can see the page at our stress management page

The more we learn about mirror neurons, the more fascinated we have become about the learning process, and how we can use hypnotherapy to re-learn stuff the way we learned when we were all kids.  And I have an hypothesis that stress is at least partially a learned response.  Hence the mirror neurons will have carved a neural pathway that lights up when we feel stressed.  So we should be able to train ourselves to have a low-stress response also.  I guess all we need is to get into a nice light trance and observe someone being calm and in-control, and rest assured that the neural pathway will be being laid down.

Hypotheses aside, I know that I get more relaxed and calm doing hypnosis, the more I do it.  And that is such a relaxed place it’s almost better than 8 hours sleep.  If I was still a stressed-out worker in tick tock, I think I would load one of the Stress Management MP3’s onto my iPod and go somewhere for a 15 minute relaxation session once in a while.
